UNIT 1: WHAT’S YOUR ADDRESS?

Period 5, 6- Lesson 3

I. Objectives.

By the end of the lesson, Pupils will be able to:

- Pronuonce two-syllabe words with the stress on the first syllyable: ’city, ’village, ’mountains, ’tower.

- Improve listening, speaking, reading, writing skills.

II. Language focus.

- Tell pupils to write about one of their friends.

- Write small letters for other words in the sentence.

III. Resources.

IV. Procedure.

1.Warm up.

T ask sts to introduce themselves.

2.Activites.

2.1.Listen and repeat.

- Tell the class that they are going to practice saying words ‘city, ‘village, ’mounains and ‘tower.

- First, explain to pupils what word stress is, in Vietnamese, if necessary.(word stress is the emphasis that you put on a syllable by saying it more loudly). Tell them that we use the stress mark(‘) to indicate word stress.

- Write ‘city, ‘village, ’mounains and ‘tower.

- Play the recording and ask pupils to repeat them, paying attention to the target words and stress.

- Get some pupils to say the sentences, while the rest of the class claps at the stressed syllables of the target words. Correct the pronunciation, if necessary.

2.2 Listen and circle a or b. Then say the sentences.

 - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording, circle the correct options and write to answer to complete the sentences.

- Give them a few seconds to read each of the sentences in silence and guess the words to fill the gaps.

- Have pupils listen to the recording and circle the appropriate options. Play the recording more than once, if necessary.

- Give them time to write the words independently. Have them swap their answers before checking as a class. Go around and offer help, if necessary.

- Then ask pupils to say the sentences aloud.

2.3- Let’s chant.

- T tell pupils they are going to say the chant Where do you live?. Read the chant and check comprehension. Follow the procedure in Teaching the unit components in the Introduction.

- T play the recording a few times for pupils to do choral and individual repetition. Show pupils how to chant and to actions. Call two groups four to give a demonstration.

- T get groups of pupils to sit face and practise chanting and doing the actions. Go around to offer help, if necessary.

- T call two groups to the front to the class to chant and do the actions. The rest of the class claps along to the rhythm of the chant.

2.4. Read and tick Yes or No.

-Tell pupils that they are going to read the text

 About what the pupils are doing and tick true or false.

- Ask them to look the statements first and then read the text. Focusing on the information they need to do the task.

- Give pupils time to do the task independently. Go around to offer help, if necessary.

- Get them to swap their answers before checking as a class.

5.Write about you.

- T tell pupils that they are going to write about one of their friend.

- T give pupils time to do their writing.

- T tell pupils to swap and check their answers before calling different pairs to read aloud the sentences.

- T write the correct sentences on the board for pupils to copy down into their notebooks.

6. Project.

- T tell pupils that they are going to do a drawing project. Check understanding. Get pupils to prepare necessary school things to carry out the project ( paper, pens, coloured pencils, scissors, glue.)

- T give pupils time to do the project in class. Get pupils to work in groups. Go around to offer help. If there is not enough time, ask pupils to finish the project as homework.

2.7. Colour the stars.

-Have the class read the statements and check their comprehension.

- T give pupils time to colour the stars and a few Ss to read the statements aloud.

- T give further support to Ss who find it difficult to achieve certain objectives.

- T repeats the sentence pattern.

- Get Ss to read the title of the unit and elicit their answers: Do you understand the title? 
- Have Ss look at each picture and get them identify the familiar characters and the new ones. Point to each character and ask: Who is this? Do you know him/ her? Where’s he/ She? What are they talking about? 
( In picture a: Tony is in bed and he tells his mum he can’t have breakfast. In picture b: His mum asks What’s the matter with you? And he answers I don’t feel well. I have a headache. In picture c: His mum says Oh, you have a fever, too. In picture d: Tony’s father ask What’s the matter with Tony? And his mother says He has a fever. I’ll take him to the doctor after breakfast.)
- Write the new vocabulary on the board “ headache, fever, hot, What’s the matter with you?”and get pupils to say the words at a few times.
- Make sure that pupils can understand the situation and language in this section. Play the recording twice: once for pupils to listen all the way through and once for them to repeat. Pause after each line for them to repeat a few times.

- Set the time limit for Ss to play game. Those with the most points at the end of the game.
