UNIT 16: LET’S GO TO THE BOOKSHOP

Lesson 2: 4-5-6

I. Objectives:

1. Knowledge:

- By the end of the lesson, Ps will be able to ask for and give reasons for going somewhere.

2. Skills:

- Develop Ss reading, writing and listening skills

3. Language focus:

- Vocabulary: Review

II. Teaching aids:

1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.

2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

III. Teaching processes:

I. Warm up: Play the game: Order the words

II. New lesson:

4. Listen and circle

- Tell the class that they are going to listen to 4 dialogues and circle the correct words.

- Have Ps read each of the incomplete sentences and guess the word to fill the gap.

- Open the tape and listen the sound of the words

- Turn on the tape 2 times and ask Ps to listen and circle the pictures.

- Get Ps to swap their answers before checking as a class.

Key: 1.a 2.c 3.b 4.c

5. Look and write

- Tell Ps that they are going to look at the pictures and write the answers to the questions.

- First, ask Ps to look at the questions and identify the places they want to go. Then have them look at the pictures and write why they want to go to the places. They should mention the things in both pictures for each answer.

- Ask Ps to do the task

- Get Ps to swap their answers before checking as a class.

- Call on some Ps to report their answers. Others listen and comment.

- Have the whole class read each sentence in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation

 3.they want to play football and badminton.

6. Let’s play

- Tell Ps that they are going to play the game Where and why to practice suggesting places to go and giving reasons.

- Divide the class into groups of three and explain how to play the game: ask two groups to go to the front. Group 1 should draw a slip of paper from the box and say Let’s go to the . Group 2 should ask Why do you want to go to the ? Group 1 then answers Because we want to . After that, the two group swap roles. Then invite another two groups of Ps to the front and continue.

- Have the Ps play the game.

Lesson 2: 1-2-3
I. Objectives:
1. Knowledge: 
- By the end of the lesson, Ps will be able to ask for and give reasons for going somewhere.
2. Skills: 
- Develop Ps speaking and listening skills.
3. Language focus:
	- Vocabulary: zoo, animal, cinema, film, swimming pool, hungry.
- Structures: Why do you want to go to the + place? 
 – Because I want to + V- activity.
II. Teaching aids:
1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.
2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

I. Warm up: Sing the song “Let’s go ”
II. New lesson:
1. Look, listen and repeat
- Tell the class that they are going to learn to ask for and give a reason.
- Ask Ps to identify the characters in 4 pictures on page 42 and ask:
+ Who are they?
+ Where are they?
+ And What are they talking about?
- Teach some new words:
why: tại sao, vì sao
because: tại vì, bởi vì
hungry: đói
something: 1 vài thứ
+ Teacher read first as a model and ask the Ss to repeat
+ Have the Ps repeat in groups and individuals
- Open the tape and have the Ps listen the sound of the words.
- Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking
- Instruct Ps to translate the dialogue into Vietnamese. 
Point and say
- Tell Ps that they are going to practice asking for and giving reasons.
- Teach some new words:
zoo: sở thú
animal: động vật
swimming pool: bể bơi
cinema: rạp chiếu phim
film: phim
see = watch: xem
+ Teacher read first as a model and ask the Ss to repeat
+ Have the Ps repeat in groups and individuals 
+ Ask: Why do you want to go to the + place?
+ Answer: Because I want to + V-activity
- Instruct how to ask for and give a reason.
- T practices as a model and ask Ps to practice in choral, groups and pairs. Correct Ps’ error pronunciation
Key:

- Ask them to work in pairs
- Call on a few pairs to role-play in front of the class. Correct pronunciation, if necessary.

I. Objectives:
Knowledge: 
- By the end of the lesson, Ps will be able to understand what a syllable is and how to divide words into syllables.
2. Skills: 
- Develop Ps writing and listening skills
3. Language focus:
- Vocabulary and structures: Review 
- Phonics: book, bookshop, bakery, supermarket.
II. Teaching aids:
1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.
2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

I. Warm up: Play the game “Where and why”
II. New lesson:
Listen and repeat
- Tell the class that they are going to practice saying words with one, two, three and four syllables (book, bookshop, bakery, supermarket).
- First, explain to Ps what a syllable is. Then put the four target words on the board, using vertical lines to divide the syllables.
- Open the tape and have the Ps listen the sound of the words.
- Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking.
- Put more words on the board, indicating the syllables with vertical lines. Ask Ps to repeat the words after you and clap at each syllable. (Ex: to/ge/ther, good, go, want, part/ner, ci/ne/ma, a/ni/mal, film, be/cause, bread, gym, mo/ther, fa/ther.
2. Listen, circle and write. Then say aloud
- Tell Ps that they are going to listen to the recording, circle the correct options and write the answer to complete the sentences.
- Ask them to read the sentences in silence and guess the words to fill the gap.
- Play the recording for Ps to listen, circle and write the words.
- Play the recording again so they can check their answers. 
- Have Ps trade the answers in pairs for correction
- Call on some Ps to report their answers. Others listen and comment.
- Have the whole class read each sentence in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation

3. Let’s chant
- Tell Ps that they are going to say the chant “Why do you want to ?”
- Have Ps read then chant and check comprehension.
- Play the recording a few times for Ps to do choral and individual repetition. Show them how to chant and do actions.
- Put the class into two groups to practice chanting and doing actions. Each of the groups should sing one verse of the chant. Go around and offer help, if necessary. 
- Call two pairs to the front of the class to chant and do actions. The rest of the class claps along to the rhythm.
- Have class chant again to reinforce their pronunciation.
